Fox Nation Closes Comments On "LA Hispanic Mayor" Story?

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , 3 COMMENTS

Fox Nation has closed the coments on the racially titled story regarding Los Angeles City Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

That seems a bit premature after only 143 comments which have also been deleated by the way. News Hounds ask the question in this blog post this blog post

"Why would "Fox Nation," the site that is "opposed to intolerance," be engaging in what appears to be race baiting?" referring to the Fox Nation story which is titled LA's Hispanic Mayor Wants Taller Wall Around His Mansion

The Fox Nation thread is linked to an article in the LA Times which is titled "Villaraigosa Fights For Taller Walls Around Mayor’s Mansion." which doesn't include the Mayor's ethnicity.

News Hounds also asked "Why is Villaraigosa's ethnicity relevent to the story? Interesting...." That is interesting, but why would Fox Nation think it's a good idea to shut down the debate over the controversy they created? - I mean, isn't that the point?

89 years ago today: Supreme Court defends women's voting rights

Feb 27, 1922:

In Washington, D.C., the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, providing for female suffrage, is unanimously declared constitutional by the eight members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The 19th Amendment, which stated that "the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex," was the product of over seven decades of meetings, petitions, and protests by women suffragists and their supporters.

I wonder how many years will pass before the right of citizens of the United States to marry will not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of gendar?

As with all struggles for basic human rights, the opposers consistantly end up on the wrong side of history.

MSNBC's Cenk Uygar Rips Obama On Lack of Support For Wisconsin Union Employees

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , 0 COMMENTS

Rut-Row! - Hell may have frozen over. MSNBC's Cenk Uygar has called President Barack Obama to the carpet over his lack of support for Union Workers in Wisconsin.

Uygar gave the most scathing assessment of Obama's handling of the crisis. Rachel Maddow has also been critical of Obama on this issue, but nothing compared to the visably angry critique Cenk Uygar offered for Obama's complete 180 from campaign promises he made in 2007.

The video clip below highlights just such a campaign promise where then Sen. Obama said the following:

“If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain, when I’m in the White House I’ll put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself. I’ll walk on the picket line with you as President of the United States of America.”

Kudos to Uygar for saying what others in the liberal are too afraid or not allowed to say when it comes to Obama's memory regarding camapaign promises. Remember GITMO anyone. Sure the list of accomplishments is larger, but that doesn't mean that we should casually lose sight of the short comings and failures.

Fox News CEO A Criminal? You Decide

The chairman of Fox News may have committed a federal crime, according to legal documents filed by attorneys for a former News Corporation employee.

Affidavits filed in a lawsuit against a former News Corporation employee say that News Corp. executive Roger Ailes advised former publishing executive Judith Regan to lie to federal investigators about an affair she had with Bernard B. Kerik.

Kerik, a longtime ally of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, was at the time being vetted as the next possible Homeland Security secretary.

Ailes's goal in asking Regan to lie about the affair was meant to help protect Giuliani's presidential ambitions, The New York Times noted in its coverage of the allegations.

Rachel Maddow Show Gay Kiss Live

Posted: Wednesday, February 23, 2011 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , 3 COMMENTS

Rachel Maddow hosted her MSNBC show at Free State Brewery on Wednesday, discussing current national and state issues, such as union rights, abortion, and DOMA. While discussing the "defence of marriage act" two male bar patrons decided to share a kiss in the background. It reminded me of Will & Grace where Will and Jack took advantage of live television to protest NBC's last minute cancellation of the first televised gay kiss?

I'm not even sure the two male bar patrons are gay. They both seemed to be there with women and had been standing at opposit ends of the bar moments earlier. So I guess this is really more of a same-sex kiss when you think about it. Nevertheless, boys will be boys.
