Sheriff Joe Arpaio: The Most Racist Cop Now An FBI Target?

Posted: Thursday, August 27, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , 0 COMMENTS

The single most racist law enforcement official in the country has finally come under the microscope of the FBI. The fact that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has maintained the top cop spot in Maricopa County Arizona speaks volumes about the counties registered voters. Arpaio suffers from the same personality disorder as that of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The rule of law simply does not apply as long as the ends justify the means.

Arpaio is already being sued by the federal government for alleged racial profiling and related civil rights violations. Now, he’s being sued by the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, which claims he and his deputies abused their authority to enforce federal immigration laws when they illegally arrested and detained a U.S. citizen and legal resident who were just driving down the road in their pickup truck.

The ACLU is representing Julian Mora, a legal permanent resident who has lived in the United States for 30 years, and his U.S. citizen son, Julio. The two claim they were the subjects of racial profiling — stopped while driving their truck for no reason other than being Latino.

The 66-year-old Julian Mora, who is diabetic, said he and his son were driving to work when a Maricopa County officers cut him off, then ordered the two men out of the truck, frisked and handcuffed them. The officers then transported the Moras to the worksite of Handyman Maintenance, Inc., where the officers were conducting a raid. The ACLU suit alleges the men were held there and denied food, water, or contact with the outside world for the next three hours. Neither was allowed to use the bathroom, although the older Mora has difficulty controlling his bladder due to his diabetes. He said he was finally allowed to urinate in a public parking lot.

The two men were eventually released later that day. They say they still don’t know why they were stopped, nor where they given a reason for being transported to the scene of a police raid that had nothing whatsoever to do with either men. Arpaio is also inflicted with a Sarah Palin type fondness for making claims and statement that have no basis in fact or even reside within the realm of possibility. As an example, Arpaio spent over $10,000 in tax payer money to have Arizona State University study recidivism in his jail system. ASU found that there was no change in the rate at which inmates returned to the jail. Just like the former Alaska Governor, Arpaio immediately discounted the University Study that he requested when it did not coincide with his dillusional perception on the matter.

Another claim is that Sheriff Joe has saved county tax payers millions of dollars because of his innovative programs. Then why can't he control his budget? Why was he $7 million dollars in the hole in 1999/2000/2001 and where did the money go? Why was Loretta Barkell put into the Finance Director with a title of Deputy Chief? Because the BOS put her there and told Chief Hendershott that if he got a handle on the budget he would get his raise.

Now Arpiao is fighting off rumors that he and the MCSO is under the microscope of the FBI. However, while the FBI will neither confirm nor deny any official investigation, multiple sources have reportedly been questioned about Sheriff Arpaio by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), according to the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Business Journal.

Arpaio is perhaps the most controversial sheriff in America. He is famous for rounding up local residents on suspicion of being in the country illegally and for his jails, where inmates live in outdoor tents and wear pink underwear, pink flip-flops, and pink handcuffs.

In addition to being under investigation for the last few months by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for possible civil rights violations, including racial profiling, Arpaio's office has also come under investigation by the Department of Labor (DOL) for allegedly withholding overtime pay from employees who worked more than 40 hours per week.

All of the current alleged infractions are civil offenses, not criminal, and a
letter from the DOJ to Arpaio in the spring says that the DOJ will help provide assistance to Arpaio to correct any infractions they find.

Because the DOJ inquiry is not a criminal investigation, some local Arpaio critics have complained that the DOJ does not have certain jurisdictional powers (e.g., subpoena, grand jury indictments). Many local opponents of Arpaio's immigration enforcement efforts accuse Arpaio of abusing the power of his office and want Arpaio to be investigated for alleged criminal wrongdoings.

Pablo Alvarado of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) told us a couple of months ago, "Above all, we are concerned for the safety of migrants, Latinos, and those who speak out in Arizona. Arpaio has shown a propensity to retaliate against his opponents."

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon expressed similar concerns Monday to the
Arizona Republic: "Anyone who raises an issue is subject to phone calls
from senior officials in his department, advising them that that's not a wise thing to do. If they continue comments that the sheriff doesn't agree with, people find themselves under criminal investigation or buried with Freedom of Information Act requests that would cost the taxpayer tens of thousands of dollars."

Complaints of civil rights violations -- national origin discrimination and illegal searches and seizures -- from local citizens and officials,
members of Congress, and others have been mounting over the last couple of years as "Sheriff Joe" ramped up immigration enforcement under the controversial 287(g) program, which allows certain local and state law enforcement agencies to engage in immigration enforcement.

Arpaio spokesperson Brian Lee says neither the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) nor Sheriff Arpaio have been questioned by the FBI, and neither has been made aware of any investigation by the FBI.

More CIA Documents Fail To Back Up Cheney's Torture Claim

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , 0 COMMENTS

For what I hope is the last time, former Vice President Dick Cheney has had his claims about his torture policy shot down and yet again not substantiated by another CIA memo released. The former Vice President needs to focus on which federal prison he’ll be spending time in and not spinning an alternate reality, which he has created for himself since leaving office.

On Monday, the CIA released two memos from 2004 and 2005, which Vice President Cheney said would “show specifically what we gained” from the Bush administration’s enhanced interrogation program. As people like Spencer Ackerman noted, those documents didn’t end up showing that at all, however:

Strikingly, they provide little evidence for Cheney’s claims that the “enhanced interrogation” program run by the CIA provided valuable information. In fact, throughout both documents, many passages — though several are incomplete and circumstantial, actually suggest the opposite of Cheney’s contention: that non-abusive techniques actually helped elicit some of the most important information the documents cite in defending the value of the CIA’s interrogations.

Despite the fact that they devoted heavy coverage to Cheney’s initial claims, major media outlets have largely buried these new facts. But as Greg Sargent notes, last night on CNN, even former Bush homeland security adviser Frances Fragos Townsend had to admit that Cheney still hasn’t been vindicated:

It’s very difficult to draw a cause and effect, because it’s not clear when techniques were applied vs. when that information was received. It’s implicit. It seems, when you read the report, that we got the — the — the most critical information after techniques had been applied. But the report doesn’t say that.

Cheney, of course, refuses to back down from his initial claims. Earlier this week he put out a statement saying that “individuals subjected to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques provided the bulk of intelligence we gained about al Qaeda.” However, there is still no evidence that the torture techniques were responsible and necessary for producing the intelligence.

Nat'l Guard and Reserves Now Have $180 Per Month Gov't Healthcare

Posted: Saturday, August 22, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , 0 COMMENTS

So, Federal employees including members of congress are covered by a government sponsered heath care option, senior citizens are covered under MediCare, the poorest of the poor have basic health care options under MediCade, active members of the military have government run health care, retired members of the military have The Veterns Administration, and now members of the National Guard have a government option under (TRS) TRICARE Reserve Select which provides a health plan option to members of the Reserve and their families when they are not on active-duty status.

The health plan option delivers coverage similar to TRICARE Standard and Extra to eligible members and features continuously open enrollment.

The Army Reserve’s top general calls it a "steal." The National Guard’s Enlisted Association says "where can you get health care for your entire family for just ($180) a month?" An Ohio National Guard private calls it "untouchable." Another Soldier said it’s "one of the many often unmentioned benefits of Guard service." So it’s no surprise that increasing numbers of Guardmembers are purchasing TRS, especially in these tough economic times.

With President Obama and the democrats on the hill trying to provide for a public option for the segment of Americans left out of the health care picture, it is amazing how the medical insurance industry has managed to enlist hard working, middle class republicans into taking action against health care reform by painting it out to be a death blow to democracy and freedom.

They have funneled obscene amounts of money into "grassroots" organizations by playing upon the undisputed sense of patriotism that is at the core of the republican party. At the same time, they have encited and called to arms a racist segment of the far right based soley on the the Presidents mixed race.

Many of these townhall protestors are among the uninsured because their employers don't provide health care or because like many, they simply can't afford the monthly premiums imposed by the private medical insurance industry that operates unopposed by competition.

I doubt that any of these protestors would consider the elderly, the military, and memebrs of the National Guard and Army Reserve to be unpatriotic or socialist for taking advantage of affordable health care options for themselves and their families.

When townhall protestor Katy Abram appeared on MSNBC and described her famalies "health care savings account" which has a $5000.00 deductable, I was shocked that she somehow felt that that was something worthy of praise. Then she went on to say that "over the course of a year, we'll pay for all of our medical needs, doctor visits out-of pocket.

Abram has been led to beleive that a public option will take away her choice to maintain that $5000 dollar anual health care plan and I can assure her that it will not. Whomever is collecting over five thousand of the Abram famalies hard earned dollars each year before they even have to out one thin dime, will be more then happy to keep that arrangement going.

However, should the Abram family at some point see the benefit of taking advantage of a public option at $180 or $200 per month, or even $250 per month, that is still only $3000 per year and far below the $5000 dollar deductable that the Abram family has to meet before the insurance company starts paying out benefits.

Even if they can take that $5000 as a tax deduction, it's still real money that has to be paid out of pocket with each and every doctor visit until they have forked over five grand.

Now at this stage of the game, nobody knows what the average cost of a government sponsered public option will cost on a montly basis, but that fact of the matter is that if turns out to be more costly then private insurance, then the plan will die on the vine and that will be that last that anyone ever hears about a public health care option in this country.

What most of these public option protesters fail to realize is that they are unwhitting agents of the medical insurance industries plan to make sure that we've already heard the last about a public option before one can even be rolled out. But if the government cal roll out a very well recieved health care option at $180 per months for Reservist and their famalies, they can do somthing similar for the segment of America that drives our economy.

This isn't about socialism, or the systematic dismantling of our country. Those are just talking points written down on 3x5 cards by people who have been duped into believing that they are part of some patriotic call to duty against the liberal loonatics running amuck in Washington.

Government control has traided hands back and forth between political parties in this country for more than 250 years and we're still standing. And we'll continue doing just that because at the end of the day, we are all Americans, and we all love our country. However, we have arrived at a frightening crossroads where some people love the country so much that they have become willing to take it down rather then to surrender control. Some are either unable or unwilling to accept the fact that an overwhelming majority of Americans have chosen a Democrat to take control and lead the nation in a new direction.

A direction different from that in which we've been headed over the passed 8 years. I don't drink Kool-Aid, nor do I march in lock-step with the democratic party. Barack Obama is not the be-all, end -all that many of my liberal friends have painted him out to be. In fact, since January, he has systematically been downgraded, in my opinion from A+, to A around March, to B- around May, to C over the passed month and he's about to get a C- if he continues to prise republicans who go out the very next day and spread the same false information that has so many Americans mis-informed.

In the unlikely event that President Obama should happen to Google this blog post among the millions out there in the abyss of the world wide web, I would say this: ENOUGH! - I don't want to hear anymore Republican praise until an honest attempt to participate in government is shown. I don't care if some Republican pulled a dozen kids from a burning school bus! - Zip It! - Push the agenda G-Dubya style if need be. Hell....have some lawyers at the DOJ write legal opinions that mandate a public option if you have to. Just git er done!

Actor Jon Voight Joins Sean Hannity's Traveling Sideshow

Posted: Friday, August 21, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , 0 COMMENTS

Craig T. Nelson, Chuck Norris, and Jon Voight are a trio of Hollywood has-beens who have been sent off to TV land in cable network shows like 24, and late night informercials. They're grasping onto The Fox News Channels Sean Hannity because he is officially the only person left that considers them celebrities. On the way to Cincinnati to participate in one of Sean Hannity's "Freedom Concerts" Voight paused long enough to offer up some heavy duty right wing rhetoric with a side of laborotory grade bullshit.

"There's a real question at stake now. Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?" Voight said in an interview with the paper.

"We are witnessing a slow, steady takeover of our true freedoms. We are becoming a socialist nation, and whoever can't see this is probably hoping it isn't true." Voight said.

Just like every other Fox News watching nit-wit, Voight speaks of a slow, steady takeover of our "true" freedoms, but never elaborates on exactly what those freedoms are, how they've been taken over, and by whom. It boggles the mind to contemplate just how slow and steady this takeover must be happening since Obama has only been in office seven months.

Of course to wrap it all up comes the use of words like 'probably' or 'maybe' for example when Voight says: "We are becoming a socilist nation, and whoever can't see this is probably hoping it isn't true.

Well, no not really. Those of us "who can't see this" are a vast majority of Americans who know that it isn't true. Voight goes on to say:

"Do not let the Obama administration fool you with all their cunning Alinsky methods. And if you don't know what that method is, I implore you to get the book "Rules for Radicals," by Saul Alinsky. Mr. Obama is very well trained in these methods."

Okay, Mr. Voight! - If you have to explain who in the fuck Saul Alinsky is, it's obvious that you're blowing your right-wing dog whistle to that segment of America that we've seen making a B-Line from the trailer park to the townhall meetings. They operate better with specific instruction as Voight illustrates by "imploring" them to get Alinsky's book - "Rules for Radicals."

"The real truth is that the Obama administration is professional at bullying, as we have witnessed with ACORN at work during the presidential campaign. It seems to me they are sending down their bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don't want a government-run health care plan forced upon them. So I ask again: Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?"

Okay, Mr. Voight! - I hate to keep interrupting, but you're so full of shit. "The real truth is..." - Opposed to what? the other truth, the make believe truth, the truth that only resides within what's left of your cocain saturated brain? - Voight says that "the Obama administration is professional at bullying, as we have witnessed with ACORN at work during the presidential campaign.

Hey shit head! - There was no Obama Administration during the presidential campaign. Voight continues with "It seems to me they are sending down their bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don't want a government-run health care plan forced upon them. So I ask again: Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?"

Okay, so we've got rightwing whack-jobs showing up at townhall meeting armed to the teeth with AK-47's and you're talking about bullies and fist fights! - Are you shittin' me with this? - "Average Americans who don't want a government-run health care plan forced upon them." - Jesus Fucking Christ! - What part of public option, thus the word "option" do you not understand? -

And to answer your question, Obama isn't trying to start a civil war, he's trying to prevent one. Let's not forget that it's the right that's locked and loaded. I suspect that you're just loaded. I'll just leave it at that before I say something rude or offensive.

The Young Turks Cenk Uygur Fans Rally For MSNBC Slot

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , 0 COMMENTS

Could radio personality Cenk Uygur be making the leap from progressive radio to primetime cable television like Ed Shultz and Rachel Maddow of MSNBC. Uygur, a 29 year old attorney turned political talker is not shy about his desire to fill the 10pm slot at MSNBC following Rachel Maddow.

Needless to say, I don't care who you are, Maddow is going to be one tough act to follow. That being said, Uygur is no staranger to the cable news circuit and has made appearances on MSNBC, CNN's Headline News, ABC, Fox News, and Al Jazeera just to name a few. In spite of MSNBC being whisy-washy on looking to fill the 10pm slot, they won't have to look too far if Uygur's fans have anything to say about it.

In addition to his radio show The Young Turks, Uygur also host the internet show Meet The Bloggers. Currently The Young Turks YouTube channel garners more then 3 million hits per month and being a regular viewer myself, Cenk Uygur could very well be the missing puzzle piece to complete an awesome weekday lineup at MSNBC.

ChicoBrisbane.Com certainly hopes that when and if MSNBC decides to fill the 10pm slot, they realize that Uygur was made for that spot. It's got his name written all over it.
Matthews - Olbermann - Maddow - Uygur! - 5 days a week, what more could a progressive audience ask for?

More Bush-Cheney Misdeeds Rise To The Surface

Posted: Thursday, August 20, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , 0 COMMENTS

In direct contridiction to statements made by former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz during a media camapign earlier this year, Former Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency Director General Michael Hayden said that an internal CIA report expected to be released Monday will show that CIA interrogators did not uncover any imminent attacks.

Hayden made his remarks at a panel discussion on the privatization of US intelligence this morning at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Cheney had said on more then one ocassion that intelligence gained via waterboarding and enhanced interrogation techniques had in fact thwarted subsequent terrorist attacks and in his opinion, saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

Another revolation was revealed today about the Bush Administration following the release of an advance copy of a book authored by former Department of Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge. Going well beyond ambiguous speculation, Ridge states catagorically that the Bush Administrations insisted that his agency raise the national security threat level on the eve of the 2004 presidential election.
It had an immediate impact on the former Presidents approval rating and garnered his victory the following evening. Although not exactly a secret among that segement of America that keeps themselves abreast of such things, this long suspected scenario is nontheless chilling now that we know that the former President engaged in an act of terrorism by using the power of a federal agency for political gain.

Like all of the other Bush Administrations high crimes and misdomeanors, this is likely to be simply one more among many that will also go unprosecuted.
In addition to Hayden, former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and veteran CIA operations officer Jack Devine where also among the panel at this morning discussion at The National Press Club in Washington D.C.

The moderator, bestselling spy novelist Joseph Finder, kicked off the discussion with a brief statement acknowledging
New York Times and Washington Post stories that ran today. The two newspaper stories, detailing CIA’s employment of security contractor Blackwater (since renamed Xe) for a multimillion dollar terrorist ‘assassination’ program disclosed to Congress last month by CIA Director Leon Panetta, essentially refuted a story Finder published on The Daily Beast earlier this week.

Finder claimed that the program "wasn’t much more than a PowerPoint presentation," characterized the Panetta’s disclosure to Congress as a "gaffe," and so much as suggested that Panetta should resign.

Hayden and Chertoff used the panel discussion to defend CIA and DHS’ reliance on contractors, explaining that various factors, such as the need to ramp up new staffs quickly, and statutory constraints on hiring, caused an overreliance on contractors in the period immediately following 9/11.

Hayden described steps he and his deputy, Steve Kappes, took to stanch the flow of mid-career officers out of the CIA ranks into more lucrative contractor jobs, and how the percentage of contractor personnel disproportionately swelled in the ranks of ‘core support’ personnel that form the second echelon of intelligence workers behind ‘core’ personnel who serve as case officers or analysts.

Devine noted that the information technology revolution in intelligence business processes has driven much of the growth in intellgence contracting.
Questions on controversial intelligence issues cropped up when Finder opened the floor to discussion.

Hayden repeated his "look to the future, not back at the past"
mantra when asked about the possibility of a special prosecutor to investigate torture and detention, and also mentioned that Federal prosecutors had already deemed all but one of the referrals for criminal conduct related to detainee abuse as not worthy of prosecution.

Hayden also gave a general description of the effectiveness of the interrogation program included in the soon-to-be released CIA IG report. Hayden stated that six key paragraphs describe how the program achieved ‘modest success’ in learning about Al Qaeda organization and leadership, but did not uncover any imminent attacks.

Neither Hayden nor Chertoff acknowledged that in their roles as Bush administration policymakers, they could have taken action to forestall policies that have resulted or could result in litigation or prosecution.

Socialist Or Jihadist: You Can Only Pick One

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , , , 0 COMMENTS

The claim that the Bush Administration “kept America safe from another attack.” following the September 11, 2001 attack on The Word Trade Center has been a talking point more then a fact from it’s first utterance. In order for such a statement to even be remotely true, George Bush and Dick Cheney would’ve had to pick up a rifle and stand a post in Afghanistan or Iraq. Anything short of that is not only absurd it’s bullshit.

After leaving office, the talking point became a mantra for former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz as they embarked on a media campaign following the release of legal opinions from The Department of Justices Office of Legal Council, which soon became known as “the torture memos.” - Both Cheney’s picked up the pace on their damage control tour and would always fall back on that mantra when their arguments in defense of torture where shot down like ducks in a row. “Well….at the end of the day, the Administration did keep America safe from another attack following 9/11.” Liz Cheney said countless times during the media campaign.

If that’s how the Cheney’s want us to see these events, then lets back up a few years to the first attack on the World Trade Center. President Clinton not only kept up safe through out the completion of two terms in office, but he managed to find the perpetrators, bring them to justice, and do so without launching pre-emptive war against a sovereign nation.

It was only a matter of months after Clinton handed control over to George W. Bush did that protection end when the new administration ignored several warning signs. The daily briefing that warned that Bin Ladin was determined to strike inside the U.S.” was ignored and couldn’t have been more explicitly informative then a courtesy call from Osama Bin Ladin himself.

Now President Obama seems to be falling into the same trap that war against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan is a noble cause that will protect America. The fact of the matter is that it won’t and in fact, if anything, it will only increase the desire for Islamic extremist to launch another 9/11-style attack and weaken the Pakistani Government by pushing Al Qaeda and the Taliban across its border.

I needn’t remind the current administration that Pakistan has nuclear weapons that these groups would just love to get their hands on. Yet the Republicans would have us believe otherwise or what Bush and Cheney wanted us to believe for the better part of 8 years. The war against terror was nothing more then a jihad similar to the objectives of Blackwater. It’s chief objective was to rid the world of not only Muslim extremist but also the Muslim faith itself. Therefore, if you supported George Bush, you’re a Jihadist. After all, isn’t that the new battle cry of the right? – If you support Barack Obama, you’re a socialist. Well…I’d rather be a Socialist then a Jihadist.

Michelle Bachmann (R) MN. Dishonest About Minnesota Innovation

Posted: Wednesday, August 19, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , 3 COMMENTS

Michelle Bachmann (R) MN takes liberty with the truth while talking with The Fox News Channels Sean Hannity. While spinning the public discourse surrounding health reform, Bahmann told Hannity that Minnesota was known for innovation and that "a gentleman invented the pacemaker in his garage." which doesn't exactly jive with reality.

Canadian, John Hopps invented the first cardiac pacemaker. While experimenting with radio frequency heating to restore body temperature, Hopps made an unexpected discovery: if a heart stopped beating due to cooling, it could be started again by artificial stimulation using mechanical or electric means. This lead to Hopps' invention of the world's first cardiac pacemaker in 1950.

Wilson Greatbatch invented a newly-designed cardiac pacemaker and a corrosion-free lithium battery to power it Patent Number(s) 3,057,356 - Born in Buffalo, New York, Greatbatch attended Cornell University and graduated with a B.E.E. in electrical engineering in 1950. Improvements had been made upon the two men's earlier work by creating the Chardack-Greatbatch pacemaker in 1960.

It used Mallory mercuric oxide-zinc cells for its energy source, then coupled to electrodes placed into the myocardium of the patient's heart. It was this patented innovation that led to the Medtronic company of Minneapolis commencing manufacture and further development of cardiac pacemakers, but by no stretch of the imagination was it the inventor of the pacemaker.

Well.....unless you're Rep. Michelle Bachmann. Then there is no telling how far the imagination can stretch. Historical reports to confirm that Medtronic got it's start in a garage in northeast Minneapolis as a repair service specializing in medical equipment.

Townhaller Katy Abram Writes 04' Review Of Sean Hannity Book

Posted: Monday, August 17, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , , 0 COMMENTS

Townhall protestor Katy Abram said to Pensylvania Sen. Arlan Spector "I'm 35 years old and I haven't been interested in politics until know.
You've awaken a sleeping giant!" - Once the news clip hit the airwaves, it went viral across YouTube. The same can be said about Abram's subsequent appearances on MSNBC's Hardball and Fox News Channels Hannity's America.

In a previous post at ChicoBrisbane.Com, we highlighted that Abram's disinterest in politics actually goes back to 2006 when we discovered her connection as an active organizer for Glenn Beck's 9/12 project. Recently a ChicoBrisbane commentor posted a link where Katy Abram offered up a glowing review of Sean Hannity's book Deliver Us From Evil on the Amazon website.

I suspect that it won't be long before we learn that Abram was a member of The Young Republicans. In that review, Abram said that she purchased Hannity's book over the weekend and that it "has stirred the fire in my belly." - Ironically this statement was made more then five years before Abram's claim of having an interested in politics.

I think that at this point in the "townhall" debate, it's safe to assume that the blatent dishonesty of Katy Abram and Heather Blish are indicative of the theatrics that surround the public discourse. Those who speak loudest, hurl the most bullshit. The bigger the sign, the less the sign holder actually beleives what the sign says. - The whole matter reaks of desparation. -

As a final thought, anyone interested picking up a copy of Sean Hannity's book that Abram praised like real Christians praise the Bible, they are widely available across the internet from $0.99 cents to $1.74 - I've posted links below for you shopping convenience.

First and foremost I am a conservative who has seen the light after working a number of years in the liberal television media. While working in television I didn't see it. I didn't see the liberal workings because I was a part of it.

After leaving to become a stay at home mom I see time after time how much my former counterparts spin everything. As a result I have returned to my original God given roots of conservativism. (My parents are so proud). I digress. To the last individual who stated only the rich are conservative...well let me educate you.

I personally have NEVER made over $35,000. My husband is making in the mid $50's...well looky here someone who is a conservative whomakes less than your liberal paycheck. Amazing to think that someone so poor could be a conservative.

Anyhow, I bought Sean's book this weekend and it again has stirred the fire in my belly. I absolutely love this book. Sean doesn't skirt around the issues with a song and dance of rhetoric. He shows CLEARLY and DISTINCTLY how the left left their minds in the gutter.

Their minds are fogged with the rantings of lunatics. They have seen clear proof of the difference of good and evil in the world and are still either oblivious to it or truly choose to turn a blind eye in hopes for recovering the White House. Sean you have truly outdone yourself. Keep up the great work! This is truly a work of love and dedication.

How long will it be before Palin's death panel rant leads elderly couple to commit suicide, and elderly women to trade sexual favors for perscription medication. "It this how it's going to be?"

With the ominous sound of the term "death panel" how long will it be before Sarah Palins right-wing rhetoric leads another elderly couple to resort to the same drastic measures as the couple in the attached video? - Or an elderly women walking the street, tradeing sexual favors for perscriptions medications that she can no longer afford?

Freedom Under Attack: The Liberals Are Coming!

Posted: Saturday, August 15, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , 1 COMMENTS

Whenever Republicans have their backs against the wall as they do right now after 8 years of George W. Bush. Also in 1999 and after 12 years of Ronald Regan and the elder George H.W. Bush, a false alarm of liberty and freedom being under attack is made in lieu of simply owning up to the past and offering real solutions going forward.

Instead, they tried to sell America on contuinuing along the path that lead us to near disaster. I say "near disaster" because that's exactly what it is. And it would have been an absolute disaster had John McCain and Sarah Palin won the 2008 election. Instead, for the first time in a long time, the rational among the electorate, regardless of political party understood the sad state of affairs that the Bush Administration had left in it's wake.

The Republicans immediately sounded the standard false alarm that Democrats in control equals the loss of freedom. Like Paul Revere's midnight ride from Boston to Lexington warning that the British were coming, the Republicans take to airwaves and try to paint their dishonest rhetoric as some sort of patriotic duty and then use the very freedom that they claim to love, to prostitute the word and it's meaning for the sake of regaining control of the country that their party nearly distroyed.

Were are seeing it unfold right before our very eyes. Somehow the concept of being our brothers keeper and reforming our healthcare system to provide affordable health care for all Americans who wish to have it, means the end of freedom in America. These town hall political parrots cry about wanting their country back, and not wanting it to turn into Russia.
They want it restored back to the way that our founding fathers had it. One can only assumes that that means a virtually all-white nation of wealthy slave owners in one class and everyone else in a second class, thus the term second class citizens.

What these ignorent townhallers fail to understand is that they are the second class citizens. They're the ones doing to dirty work for the wealthy in that first class. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't caught word of any Fortune 500 CEO's making an appearance at these townhall protest to get his or her two cents in about wanting their country back. I haven't seen Sean Hannity, Glenn Back, or Rush Limbaugh making an appearance to protest and shout that they want thier country back. And why should they when they can have their current day version of a slave doing that dirtywork for them.

The bottom line is this: With our total and complete dominance in Washington today, the Democrats are going to restructure our free nation. Not into a socialist state, but rather a free nation that provides the same level of freedom for all American's and not just the wealthty and influantual. And if providing a public option is what is necessary to ensure that all Americans have access to "affordable" health care, then that's what we will do.
What people fail to see is that unlike President Bush who force fed us diregulated financial markets, and two wars built upon lies, President Obama has been, in my opinion, overly accomodating to opposing views.

However, I suppose that that had much to do with him being elected in the first place. If the country continues to heal at the rate that it is healing under Obama's leadership, then the 2012 Republican candidate will simply be going throught the motions of an election cycle for no other reason that to be the one to hand Obama a second landslide victory. Those are the facts weather you like it or not.

Rachel Maddow's Positive Impact On Health Care Debate

Posted: Friday, August 14, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , 0 COMMENTS

The newest kid on the block over at MSNBC, Rachel Maddow, is kicking ass and taking names. Among those names are former House Majority Leader Dick Armey and his braintrust Freedom Works. On Aug. 7 Maddow raised questions about Armey's day job at the lobbying law firm DLA Piper and the activities of his conservative political action group Freedom Works, which has taken credit for the disruption of public debate at townhall meetings across the country.

Maddow raised valid questions about a potential role for the law firm — and its clients — in the protests.

“The fact that Dick Armey and FreedomWorks are standing alongside regular Joes like Rick Scott to lead the charge against health care reform could be just a coincidence. Or it could be a stark reminder of who we're dealing with here. Who is actively organizing the campaign against health care reform? Scaring real Americans with increasingly paranoid and kooky lies about health care and then providing a script for how to express that fear.”

Today Mr. Armey resigned from DLA Piper amid a wave of negative attention his "grassroots" organization, Freedom Works, has drawn for helping to organize protesters at health care town hall meetings with members of Congress.

Today on MSNBC during the daily hand-off between Countdown with Keith Olbermann and The Rachel Maddow Show, Olberman introduced Maddow as the person who got Dick Armey fired and will now be making her first appearance on NBC's Sunday political talk show, Meet The Press, with none other then Dick Armey.
Maddow didn't waste anytime downplaying the friendly banter and rightfully so. Armey was not fired, he resigned and the fact that he did so in light of Maddows reporting the day before is irrelevant. Since her debut on MSNBC, Maddow has stayed true to the reputation she held as a progressive talk radio host on Air America where she still holds a popular syndicated slot.

Maddow's commentary, while sometimes overly sarcastic, is always based on journalistic fact finding and truth in reporting. She has stayed above the fray and avoided the Fox News rivelry in spite of being singled out by many over at Fox News for her commentary as well as her sexual orientation. If anything, Fox News could learn a plethora of useful information from Maddow should they ever take an interest in honest commentary.

Townhaller Katy Abram Member Of Glenn Beck's 9/12 Project

Katy Abram cast herself into the national media by attending a townhall meeting hosted by Sen. Arlen Spector. Her over-the-top rhetoric about "awakening a sleeping giant" set her up for interviews with local media as well as national media such as her embarassing segment on MSNBC's Hardball and The Fox News Channels Hannity's America. On Hardball, Katy Abram praised her health insurance plan which she described as a "health savings account that has a $5,000 plus dollar deductable." yet she continued by saying that "over the course of a year "we pay all of our medical cost, doctor visits out-of-pocket." Abrams then mentioned that it has been tough this year because "my son had surgery and it looks like we have a second surgery, but we're almost at our deductable, so that's good." Abram said to my utter disbelief as well as, I am sure, the many millions that where watching and listening as the words left her mouth.

However, the most stunning part of the interview was when Hardball guest host Lawrence O'Donnell questioned Abrams about her claim that she was 35 years old and never had an interest in politics until now. When asked how she made it through 9/11 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with out taking an interest, Abrams replied. "To be honest, I didn't really care. I had other things going on. I was busy getting married, having kids. It really wasn't a priority."

On Fox News' Hannity's America, host Sean Hannity didn't really ask any substative questions. Instead, he used the segment to prise Abram and her husband who also took part in the segment.

We know know that Abrams wasn't as disinterested in politics as she indicated during that townhall meeting, or her subsequent interviews with Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. It is now known that Abram is a member of Glenn Beck's 9/12 Project and according to messages that Abrams posted on the 9/12 Projects Message Board, she was very active in hosting meetings and recruiting others to attend a meeting sponsered by her and her husband. I suppose you could say that Abrams is a community organizer. Rut-Row!

Now Abram is engaged in a media tour in protest of the wave of nagative criticism being hurled at her left and right, including myself. Like Heather Blish who also thrust herself into the media spotlight by claiming to be just a regular citizen and not affiliated with the Republican Party. It was quickly learned that Blish was not only affiliated with the Republican Party, but it's Co-Chair for the local committee.

If Abram didn't want the feel the wrath of the "real" outraged segment of the American electorate, she should have either said that she has only been interested in politics since Obama's election, or not given any indication of the length of her political interest. I admit that some of the criticism is mean spirited and as over-the top as her own rhetoric, but to that end I would like to quote former Vice President Dick Cheney by saying - "SO WHAT!" If you can't take the heat, stay out of the God Damn kitchen.

More importantly, what Abram is experiencing now should give her a good indication of how the Senators and Congressman feel when they encounter the very type of rude and hostile mob that she made herself a part of. She got up and tried to embarrass Sen. Spector with her right-wing talking points at a voice level that was far beyond necessary. So, I guess that settles it? Payback is a bitch........

my husband and i are hosting a party in Lebanon, PA. I was going to have it at our home, but if we have enough attendees I will move it to a local restaurant/pub. Let me know if you're interested. We're 25-30 minutes from Hbg and 25 minutes from Manheim

Below is Abrams tearful radio interview with Glenn Beck, in which Beck tells Abrams that the nagative attention that she is getting is the result of the left not having an argument and than in those cases, they resort the the tactics of Iranian Leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Cheney Memoir Against His Presidential Loyalty Principal

Posted: Thursday, August 13, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , , , 0 COMMENTS

Immediately upon leaving office, the release of Department of Justice internal memos cast a far more sinister light on the former President and Vice President's instaiable appitite for war.

While former President George W. Bush quietly took up residence in the Huston suburbs, former Vice President Richard B.Cheney stayed behind in Washington. He and his daughter Liz, embarked on a media tour to sound the alarm over the new administrations "far left" agenda.

However, it soon became clear that the Cheney's focus was to validate the actions of the Bush Administration, and particularly the legal opinions coming out of the DOJ's Office of Legal Council that attempt to justify torture.

For the better part of two months, Liz Cheney defended, or attempted to defend her fathers actions and was usually left without a logical rebuttal, except "at the end of the day, they kept America safe for 8 years, " which most of the country did not agree with. In order for that statement to be true, George Bush and Dick Cheney would have had to pick up a rifle and stand a post in Afghanistan or Iraq, and we all know that didn't happen. However, we do know what happened the last time that Dick Cheney did pick up a rifle.

With Cheney's memoirs taking shape, it's clear that his distain for Geroge W. Bush goes beyond Bush's refusal to grant a Presidential pardon to Cheney's former Aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Bush did however commute Libby's sentance upon conviction in the Federal Court for purgery.

"In the second term, he felt Bush was moving away from him," said a participant in the recent gathering, describing Cheney's reply. "He said Bush was shackled by the public reaction and the criticism he took. Bush was more malleable to that. The implication was that Bush had gone soft on him, or rather Bush had hardened against Cheney's advice. He'd showed an independence that Cheney didn't see coming. It was clear that Cheney's doctrine was cast-iron strength at all times -- never apologize, never explain -- and Bush moved toward the conciliatory."

Some conservatives rebut the argument, noting that Bush was nothing if not stubborn in the face of political and public opposition. Commenting on the story, Joe Scarborough pointed out on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that Bush was defiant about the surge in Iraq despite the polls.

When former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and former White House press secretary Scott McClellan told tales out of school in their own books, Cheney blasted them in the media and said that The presidency is owed loyalty, or at least that was Cheney's view at the time.

That doesn't seem to be the case any longer since his own tell-all book will soon be going to press. Cheney is telling friends that "the statute of limitations has expired" on tensions between them. Last month, Time magazine reported that, Cheney was furious at Bush for not pardoning Scooter Libby, the vice presidential aide who, in Cheney's words, "was asked to stick his neck in the meat grinder" by not disclosing all he knew about who leaked CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity to the press.

Cheney is apparently sharing his recollections with groups of friends and associates, sort of prepping them for the disclosures to come in his 2011 book. After one group session, one Cheney associate told the Post's Barton Gellman that the former vice president is mad at 43 for being "shackled" by public opinion:

Told in one session that Bush, in his own memoirs, hoped to explore his personal feelings, Cheney responded that he had no intention of doing that.

Katy Abram - Pay Med Insurance Out Of Pocket

At Sen. Arlen Spector’s (R-PA) raucous town hall yesterday, one of the “most prolonged rounds of applause” was drawn by Katy Abram, a stay-at-home mother from Lebanon, who told Specter, “We don’t want this country to turn into Russia.” On MSNBC’s Hardball today, guest-host Lawrence O’Donnell aggressively questioned Abram about her views on government, asking if she would like to see Medicare and Social Security repealed.

After struggling to give a complete answer, Abram conceded, “yeah, there are programs in place, you know, the founders did not want to have here.” However, Abram praised her current health insurance (savings plan) that has a $5,000 deductable, yet requires her to pay for all medical cost, doctor visits "out of pocket" -

Openly Gay News Anchor Charles Perez Fired.

Posted: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , 0 COMMENTS

A Florida TV station has fired openly gay anchor Charles Perez, just days after he had filed a discrimination case against the company, in which Perez said he was demoted for reasons tied to his sexual orientation.Perez, former host of the nationally syndicated Charles Perez Show, had been embroiled in a high-profile legal dispute with his ex-partner over allegations of domestic abuse when he was demoted July 22, according to The Miami Herald. Perez, 46, filed a complaint against WPLG-ABC with the Miami-Dade County Equal Opportunity Board, in which he said that his supervisor criticized him for smiling too much on the air, and that he and co-anchor behaved "like girlfriends," TMZ reports.

In the complaint, Perez said it appeared the station demoted him due to its "discomfort over the increasingly high profile of my sexual orientation."The red flag in this story is the appearance of station's discomfort with Perez's increasingly messy private life. The MIami-Dade anchor's name has been in the local news because of abuse charges against his former partner Dennis Ricardo Peña, whom Perez filed a injunction against for protection against domestic violence for being ''stalked, harassed and threatened'' by Peña. There are also charges and counter charges about whether Perez's email was hacked and confidential information disclosed that the anchor felt could damage his professional rep.

WPLG officials say Perez's claims are baseless. "WPLG is disappointed that the actions of Charles Perez left us no real choice other than to terminate his employment contract," WPLG Vice President and General Manager Dave Boylan said in a statement to The Miami Herald. "WPLG emphatically denies Perez's claim of discrimination.

The document he is circulating is filled with misstatements and untruths."Perez has worked as a producer of the Ricki Lake Show and the Montel Williams Show, and appeared as an openly gay man on the first season of MTV's "The Real World."

WPLG Vice President and News Director Bill Pohovey denied Perez's claims: ``This is an outrageous accusation," Pohovey said Monday in a statement to The Herald. ``As a gay man myself, I can safely say the Station does not discriminate against gay people. Charles' claim that the Station discriminates against gay people is untrue and offensive."

Perez issued this statement: "Integrity, professionalism, and privacy are three principles that I have lived by. This is a situation that is overblown, misunderstood, taken out of context, and misused. The real issue surrounds the interpretation of language in an e-mail. I have never questioned my identity as a male. There is nothing else to say about the attempt by a former partner to malign me and my reputation by spewing out baseless statements and allegations.''

Peña says in his domestic violence petition that Perez would ``throw household items, punch[ed] walls and use demeaning and vulgar language.''

Glenn Beck Losing Even More Advertisers

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , 0 COMMENTS

Thanks mostly in part to an online group ColorOfChange.Org and a viewing public that knows when too far, is too far. However, if today’s Glenn Beck show is any indication of what Beck considers toning it down, then the next move is to have Mr. Beck removed from television and relegated to radio like Mr. Limbaugh was a decade ago. Unless Beck offers a sincere, on-air apology to President Obama, his show needs to go dark.

On his show today, Glenn Beck said - “America, there is so much anger and hatred in this country right now and it is important that we have an honest conversation here and understand clearly what is being said on this program.”

This is obviously in response to the loss of advertisers, but after attempting to give the perception that people only misunderstood was he says on his tee-vee and radio programs, Beck dove head first into a history lesson on Eugenics and how it didn’t start with Nazi’s, but with American Socialist, and Progressives.

Palin Popularity Tanks

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , 0 COMMENTS

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's standing among the American public has plummeted in recent weeks, as the potential 2012 presidential candidate has weighed in forcefully (and inaccurately) into the health care debate.

A new CNN Poll shows that Palin's favorability rating has fallen seven percentage points since May, from 46 percent to 39 percent. Anything under the 50 percent mark is considered problematic, especially when the politician is a known quantity (only five percent of the public said they had never heard of the former governor). Fully 48 percent of those polled said they had an unfavorable impression of Palin.

The same poll found that the man who tapped Palin to be a vice presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, (R-AZ..) had also seen his favorability rating drop by seven percentage points. But the Arizona Republican still is viewed positively by 51 percent of the public.

CNN's findings are, of course, just a snapshot of public perception at a given time. But they do come as Palin has begun to make her first political steps in her post-gubernatorial career. Last week, the Alaska Republican posted a Facebook message declaring that President Obama wanted to set up "death panels" to determine which sick and elderly patients would be euthanized.

Obama's Townhall Has Glenn Beck Looking For New Narrative

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , 0 COMMENTS

GLENN BECK: “No one is saying that eugenics are coming.”
President Obama’s National Town Hall Meeting has the radical right scrambling for a new narrative. When the President spoke about the rumor that’s been circulating a lot lately about “this idea that somehow the House of Representatives voted for death panels that will basically pull the plug on grandma because we've decided that we don't — it's too expensive to let her live anymore.” It made the thought of such a thing sound ridiculous.

Sarah Palin, for whatever reason, rolled back her crazy comment about “death panels” almost as soon as it left her mouth. Now the one how is losing advertisers left and right, Glenn Beck" on his show says to my dismay that “No one is saying that eugenics are coming.” But then follows that up with a 17th century history lesson about the origin of eugenics and how it all began with “American and British socialists and progressives.”

“Eugenics is not an idea and it did not start with the Nazis, but with American and British socialists and progressives who thought that through measures like prohibition and later, birth control, they could cure the ills of modern society, such as poor public hygiene, rising population among lower classes and urban crowding.”

There is little doubt that the loss of advertisers has Beck on housecleaning duty. He spends a few seconds in a segment alluding to the fact that people must be misinterpreting The Glenn Beck Show. No Glenn – You message has been received loud and clear by those that are predisposed to that sort of message. Your show, Mr. Beck is a dog whistles for white supremacy, bigots, and the fucking Ku Klux Klan. Plain and simple.

“America, there is so much anger and hatred in this country right now and it is important that we have an honest conversation here and understand clearly what is being said on this program.”

BEN STEIN: I Was Fired From NYT For Criticizing Obama

Posted: Tuesday, August 11, 2009 | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , 0 COMMENTS

In a previous post on ChicoBrosbane.com about Stein firing from the New York Times the reasoning was for his participation in a commercial ad for FreeCreditReport.Com – However, Stein is now laying the cause of his firing on President Obama and his criticizm of Obama’s policies on The Fox News Channel. Over the recent months, Stein has gone so far over the top when making appearances with Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity, that he had to see this coming. If he didn't then he is truely a dumb as he looks,

Ben Stein, who was fired last week as a New York Times columnist over the appearance of conflict of interest arising from his role as a spokesperson for credit rating service FreeScore.com, took to the American Spectator Monday to explain why he thinks he was "expelled from the New York Times."

In particular, Stein hinted that it was not his endorsement of FreeScore.com that proved problematic for Times editors, but his recent criticism of President Obama.
Stein wrote that he was informed that budgetary issues had forced the paper to cut his column to once every four weeks, but that he believes two other issues played prominently in his dismissal:

But the two main things, as I see them, were that I started criticizing Mr. Obama quite sharply over his policies and practices. I had tried to do this before over the firing of Rick Wagoner from the Chairmanship of GM. My column had questioned whether there was a legal basis for the firing by the government, what law allowed or authorized the federal government to fire the head of what was then a private company, and just where the Obama administration thought their limits were, if anywhere. This column was flat out nixed by my editors at the Times because in their opinion Mr. Obama inherently had such powers.
Stein added, "By a total coincidence, I was tossed overboard immediately after my column attacking Obama. (You can attack Obama from the left at the Times but not from the right.)"

Stein also dismissed the notion that his role as a spokesperson for FreeScore.com presented a conflict of interest for his role as a columnist.
"Of course, there was no conflict of interest," he wrote. "I had never written one word in the Times or anywhere else about getting credit scores on line. Not a word."

Harry Reid, Rahm Emanuel Benefit From Tabloid Peddler Who Disses Obama

It is not suprising that the publisher of grocery store and newsstand garbage like The Globe, The National Enquirer, and Star Magazine is a Pecker. No seriously! - David J. Pecker is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Media, Inc .

American Media, Inc. (AMI) is the leading publishing company in the celebrity journalism and health & fitness categories. In the past 7 years, AMI has grown to become the 4th largest consumer magazine publisher in the country, and #2 in retail magazine sales. Our 16 titles reach over 50 million readers and we publish 6 of the top 15 best selling weekly newsstand titles in the country.

I was very upset by the cover of the globe shown at the top of this post. While tee-vee and movie celebrities except this type of garbage as the nature of the beast, I think that the President of The United States should not be subjected to such rediculous commentary. In my browsing of the websites of some of these tabloids, I found that other political figures have been targets and include: former President George W. Bush, Sen. John McCain, and former Gov. Sarah Palin.

Regardless of my opinion of George W. Bush, he was the president of this country for 8 years and at a minimun, derseves his privacy now that he's out of office. Not to be accused of going on drinking binges and reports that hes has become suicidal after leaving office.

That being said, hold on to your hats, because what I discovered in reasearching American Media for this blog post, left me feeling sick and queezy. While looking into Mr. Peckers SEC filing and particularly campaign contributions, it read like a who's-who of Capitol Hill with none
other then
Harry Reid and Rahm Emanuel at the top of the list.

A June 24, 2009 SEC filing shows that Pecker made a $2,400 contribution to FRIENDS FOR HARRY REID and then on September 6, 2008 Pecker made a $1000 contribution to FRIENDS OF RAHM EMANUEL.

Other beneficiaries of the generous Pecker:

Robert Wexler(D),

Christie Todd Whitman(R),

Steve Forbes (R),

Jeb Hensarling (R),

Robert F. Bennett (R),

Ben Nelson (D),

Christopher (Kit) Bond, etal.

Since 1989, David J. Pecker as contributed overwhelmingly to Democrats, but not to the Democratic Party itself. The Republican Party isn't much of a beneficiary since receiving only a measly $500 on June 18, 2002 and another $270 on Denember 9, 2002.

Here are some of American Media's other publications online:Health & Fitness:
Fit Pregnancy Flex Men's Fitness Muscle & Fitness Muscle & Fitness Hers Natural Health Shape Country Weekly National Enquirer Star

I planned on going into depth with this blog post, but I'm going to have to leave it here. I wann't to get started on a few emails to Harry Reid and Rahm Enamuel fortwith!!!!!!!

Townhallers Hi-Jacking You Tube With 30 Sec. Clips

Over the past few days, You Tube has become swamped with Anti-Health Care Reform videos. Some usres have cut several 10 minute videos into 10 one munute video clips, or even 20 thirty second clips in an effort to take up page after page on You Tube. I suppose to make it appear differently then how it actually is. Many of the videos have no subject or even dialog for that matter and just show people milling about. I just wish that if these people are going to "wag the dog" they would at least make an effort not to make it look so staged.

Below is one of my 6 minute videos, as I have no desire to to cut it down into 120 thirty second clips so that I can follow suit.

Ben Stein Fired From NYT Column Over TV Commercial

Posted: | Posted by Chico Brisbane | Labels: , , , , 0 COMMENTS

Frequent Fox News guest and prodaganda peddler Ben Stein has been fired from his Sunday column at the New York Times. The termination comes in light of Steins appearance in television commercials for FreeScore.com, a company Reuters Blogger Felix Salmon described as "a sleazy company which exists only to extract large sums of money from those who can least afford it." The company offers customers a free credit score but charges them substantially to actually review their credit report.

Last month, Salmon advocated for Steins firing from the New York Times saying that "Stein has become a predatory bait-and-switch merchant, dangling a “free” credit report in front of people so that he can sock them with a massive monthly fee for, essentially, doing nothing at all." and that the people who take him up on this offer will be those who can least afford it.

"The level to which Stein has now sunk is more than enough reason -- as if the case for the prosecution weren't damning enough already -- for the NYT to cancel Stein's contract forthwith. It's simply unconscionable for a newspaper of record to employ as its "Everybody's Business" columnist someone who is surely making a vast amount of money by luring the unsuspecting into overpaying for a financial product they should under no circumstances buy."

NYT spokeswoman Catherine Mathis confirmed Steins termination, telling Gawker that “Ben Stein’s fine work for us as a columnist for Sunday Business had to end, we told him, after we learned that he had become a commercial spokesman for FreeScore, a financial services company.

In his blog at Reuters, Felix Salmon did a little chest pounding by posting: "You’ll forgive me if I take some small measure of credit for this one: after something in the region of 35,000 words of the Ben Stein Watch, the world’s worst financial columnist has finally been fired from the New York Times. And I couldn’t be happier." - Neither could I.
